Ur Flame, Light; The city in Babylon from which Abraham came (Genesis 11:31);one of the largest towns in Sumer and later in Babylonia; Identified by tradition with the city of Orfah in the highlands of Mesopotamia, uniting the table-land of Armenia to the valley of the Euphrates. Later it was called Edessa. Two features secured it, a high-crested crag, a natural fortifications, the other is a spring, issuing in a pool, creating an oasis surrounded by desert. Modern archeologist believe it was located in the extreme south of Chaldaea, at Mugheir, at the head of the Persian Gulf. (See Ur) (2) The father of Eliphal, one of King David's mighty-men (1 Chronicles 11:35).
Uzal Vanish, Going Away, Wanderer; Son of Joktan, Grandson of Eber; (2) A city or a region (Ezekiel 27:19). His descendants settled in Sana (the ancient name of which was Awzal), the capital of the Yemen in Southern Arabia.
