Abaddon The Destroyer; The name carries the idea of idea perishing, going to ruin, being in a ruined state, rather than that of being ruined, being destroyed. In the O.T. the word occurs six times, always as a place name in the sense in which Sheol is a place name. In three instances Abaddon is parallel with Sheol (Job 26:6 Proverbs 15:11Proverbs 27:20). In one instance it is parallel with death, in one with the grave and in the remaining instance the parallel phrase is "root out all mine increase" (Job 28:22 Psalm 88:11 Job 31:12). In this last passage the place idea comes nearer to vanishing in an abstract conception than in the other passages. (International Standard Bible Encyclopedia)
In the N.T., it is equivalent to the Greek Apollyon, i.e., destroyer) of "the angel of the bottomless pit" (Revelation 9:11). (Easton's Bible Dictionary)

Abana (Abanah) Stony; A river in Damascus. It rises in a cleft of the Anti-Lebanon range, about 23 miles north-west of Damascus, and after flowing southward for a little way parts into three smaller streams, the central one flowing through Damascus, and the other two on each side of the city, diffusing beauty and fertility where otherwise there would be barrenness. (Easton's Bible Dictionary)
Abarim Regions Beyond; Located  on the east of Jordan, a mountain-chain, over against Jericho, to the east and south-east of the Dead Sea, in the land of Moab. On Mt Nebo, one of its summits, Moses surveyed the Promised Land (Deuteronomy 3:2732:49), and there he died (34:1, 5). The Israelites had one of their encampments in the mountains of Abarim (Numbers 33:47, 48) after crossing the Arnon. (Easton's Bible Dictionary)
Abda Servant of Jehovah; The father of Adoniram, King Solomon's superintendent of forced labor (1 Kings 4:6). 2) A Levite mentioned in the statistical note in (Nehemiah 11:17). This "Abda the son of Shammua" is in the partly duplicate passage in (1 Chronicles 9:16) called "Obadiah the son of Shemaiah." (International Standard Bible Encyclopedia)
Abdeel Servant of God; The father of Shelemiah, one of the officers whom King Jehoiakim commanded to arrest Baruch, the scribe, and Jeremiah the prophet (Jeremiah 36:26). (International Standard Bible Encyclopedia)
Abdi My Servant; A Levite, father of Kishi and grandfather of King David's singer Ethan (1 Chronicles 6:44; compare 1 Chronicles 15:17). This makes Abdi a contemporary of Saul the king. 2) A Levite, father of the Kish who was in service at the beginning of the reign of Hezekiah (2 Chronicles 29:12). Some mistakenly identify this Abdi with the former. 3) A man who in Ezra's time had married a foreign wife (Ezra 10:26). Not a Levite, but "of the sons of Elam." (International Standard Bible Encyclopedia)
Abdiel Servant of God; A son of Guni and father of Ahi, one of the Gadites who were settled in the land of Bashan, (1 Chronicles 5:15), in the days of Jotham king of Judah. (B.C. 758.) (Smith's Bible Dictionary)

(1 Chronicles 8:309:35,36). 4) Son of Micah, a contemporary of Josiah, (2 Chronicles 34:20) called Achbor in (2 Kings 22:12) (B.C. 628.) 5) A city in the tribe if Asher, given to the Gershonites, (Joshua 21:301 Chronicles 6:74) the modern Abdeh, 10 miles northeast of Accho. Abel II Applies to place names; Stream; A Hebrew letter is different in the spelling between Abel I and Abel II;Usually part of a compound name; The town called Abel occurs first in 1 Samuel 6:18, although most scholars agree that this is probably a text error and should read ('eben), meaning stone. Then there is a town named Abel in 2 Samuel 20:14 and 20:18, but in 20:15 the text speaks of Abel-beth-maacah. So either Abel and Abel-beth-maacah are adjacent and similarly named towns (like, say, Beverly and Beverly Farms in Massachusetts) or they are the same town known by a long, complete and a short, truncated name.

Abel-Beth-Maacah

The Meadow of the House of Maacah; In 2 Samuel 20:15, it is called Abel-beth-hammaacah. In 2 Samuel 20:14 it appears as Beth-maacah. In 2 Samuel 20:14 and 18 it is called Abel. A city, far to the north, where Joab besieged Sheba, the son of Bichri. In 2 Kings it is mentioned, along with Ijon and other places, as a city in Naphtali captured by Tiglathpileser, king of Assyria. Abiathar Father of Abundance; Son of Ahimelech, 10th high priest of the Jews. When Saul sent his emissaries to Nob, to destroy all the priests there, Abiathar, who was young, fled to David in the wilderness, 1 Samuel 22:11-23, with whom he continued in the character of priest, 1 Samuel 23:9. Being confirmed in the high priesthood on David's accession to the throne, he aided in bringing up the ark to Jerusalem, 1 Corinthians 15:11,12, and adhered to David during the rebellion of Absalom, 2 Samuel 15:35, but afterwards was led to follow Adonijah. Solomon succeeding to the throne, degraded him from the priesthood, and sent him to Anathoth, 1 Kings 2:26,27; thus fulfilling the prediction made to Eli 150 years before, 1 Samuel 2:27-36. Saul, it would appear, had transferred the dignity of the high priesthood from the line of Ithamar, to which Eli belonged, to that of Eleazar, by conferring the office upon Zadok. When his father returned and asked what happened, Abram said, "The idols got into a fight, and the big one smashed all the other ones." His father said, "Don't be ridiculous.
